Your goal needs a soul
I know, I definitely did. The reason is usually because the goal becomes bigger than you. While the goal should be serving you and your purpose, you are all of a sudden serving the goal.
I notice that this often happens especially, when we are chasing “dead goals”. A dead goal for me is any goal that comes only from the head - or even from the outside. When connecting to it you feel mainly guilt, shame, inadequacy and pressure. Physically you tense up, mentally it is framed as “I have to…” Know that feeling? I sure do.
Of course , it’s easy to forget ourselves, if no part of us, except for our need to perform and receive outside recognition are activated by the goal.
The antidote to this: A goal with a soul. A goal which sparks something inside of you, which feels like you and brings what matters to you into this world.
Now how do you find these goals?
One of my favorite ways: Become clear how you want to feel and make your goals match this experience.
You experience your life through emotions, your brain guides you subconsciously based on the emotions you are targeting. If envisioning a goal already makes you feel like you can’t breathe properly, your brain will use that very feeling as a guiding light, to create the goal. If the goal feels empty, why do you expect creative sparks to come flying in? If a goal, however, makes you smile just thinking about it, allows you to breathe more deeply, and sparks up ideas and inspiration within seconds – then you have a goal with a soul.
With this force guiding you, you can sway along the path and disconnect from yourself, the goal you set your eyes on immediately serves as a compass to guide you back.
And as you can see: that soul for your goal, all it needs to be is: you.
